Following figure is the typical layered view. If you consider TinyOS as 
middleware then there should be another candidate below the middlware that 
provides basic services such as scheduling. Since every application embodies 
TinyOS 
components providing such basic services, thus those basic componets 
(TinyOS) fits at the bottom layer. This ensures us that tinyos is indeed 
an operating system.
