It is independent of the protocol that the nodes that are responsible
for forwarding packets will end up transmitting more packets.

I do not know of a CTP deployment that spans 20-25 hops. When you go
for such long paths, you might eventually run into the thresholds that
limit the maximum length of a path. But once you tweak those
thresholds, there is no reason why CTP wouldn't work in such networks.
