Hi folks,

I have problem when playing with mica2 and heliomote and tinyos-1.x (yes,
it's old).

I wired logger and GenericComm for flash logging and radioTx. The mote is
powered through the "solar" pin of heliomote. When booted, I periodically
shut-off these 2 components to save power between scan interval by calling
their dedicated control interface "stop()". I find that if I only shut-off
logger and leave radioTx on, my code works fine. But whenever I shut-off
radio (no matter which state the logger is), the current of the board would
surge to 0.7A (usually the average current is about 20mA) and my code stops
working.

If I wire only GenericComm without logger module, start and stop the radio
works perfectly fine with heliomote.

If I directly power the mica2 (and taking off the heliomote), radio and
flash logger shut-off works perfectly fine.

To me it looks like the heliomote is shorted because of some mysterious
confict between certain components. I repeated the same testing with
tinyos-2.x and get similar result. I called SplitControl.stop() to shut-off
radio and Logger and witness short-like current.

My question is that
1) Could someone who have played with heliomote share me some of your
experience of heliomote-powered-mote power management?
2) Anyone observes similar problem when using another sensor board?

If you think my problem description is not clear, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.
