Hi, I don't actually know what happens there, I've never had any similar problems. From the expression "multi-byte character" I would guess it has to do with unicode. Do you use any extended character sets for your default environment (e.g., is the system language something else than English)? You mention xubuntu. Do you run the XubunTOS image in a virtual machine?
