Well I went looking to see if I could figure out how to build the misc.
tools from scratch and discovered
there is no source package. So poked around some more. And was able to
find...

At the top level of the tinyos repo is tools which have a lot of stuff
including man pages for mig and ncc.
But I couldn't find the mig source so poked some more and it looks like mig
is actually part nesc.

So I see a number of options for you to pursue...

1) You could switch from gentoo to a debian based distro. I really like
Ubuntu. And then just use the
Stanford repos.

2) You pull the Stanford .debs file and then pull them apart and then shove
the enclosed files to where they need to go.

3) You can pull the current nesc release (1.3.2) from source forge and build
and install. That will get you the
current mig which should behave much better.

I think it is great that you are trying to fix the Gentoo overlay but is it
worth it? How much demand is there for the
Gentoo stuff? Course if you fix it, that would increase the ease with
which folks can use tinyos from gentoo.
