I think you can just use it as a SBW JTAG programmer if you break out
the appropriate pins (which I guess was what Matthew had in mind).

The Launchpad is a great approach if one is using one of the itty bitty
processors that it supports.

 

If one is using one of the larger processors, the launch pad won't work.
