do you have any h/w experience? designing, constructing, or modifying? Do you have surface mount experience? (you may or may not need smd (surface mount device) experience depending on what signals have been brought out to a header)
Basically you get the schematic for the micaz, look at how the existing leds are constructed, find an open port that you can use to control the led, wire it up, and then test it. Basically, study how folks have done it prior, and then duplicate.
