Internet of things is a "marketing" term. It is a generic concept that
denotes all intelligent (ie. has a computer) devices connected to a common
network where anything can talk to anything else.

It is unclear how useful that actually is or whether a more heirarchical
architecture makes more sense.

You need to be a bit more specific. However, it is simply best for you to
figure out what you need to do, study, etc. and figure out for yourself
what you need to do next.

Since you brought up IoT (Internet of Things) and edge routing you should
probably go study how to set up an IPv6 network.

In other words you need to go do a bunch of homework in

a) wireless sensor nets

b) network protocols

c) IPv6

d) IPv6 routing.

then come back and bother us again :-)
