Anything can happen once you go outside of the specs, but "incorrect values at 
first, then nothing" sounds quite likely.

That's very hard to say, because it depends on how much traffic there is (both 
your own data and the control packets of network protocols) and how much 
overhearing you expect. However, something around 50 ms is pretty close to 
optimal as long as you stay below 1 message per second received + transmitted 
per node.

That depends on the sensor board, and it's best to measure it - just turn 
everything off and see what your current drain is like.
