Hello, I am trying to the same thing, and I had the same problem. I was able to successfully read from I2C for the first time. After doing massive search, I found out that TelosB pins are open drain and you need to use pull up resistors between VCC, SCL and SDA pins. Resistor capacity does not matter ( I used 20K).
