You should export motecom environment variable like...

export MOTECOM=serial@COM1:19200 # mica baud rate
export MOTECOM=serial@COM1:mica  # mica baud rate, again

Also, you should read
Mote-PC serial communication and SerialForwarder (TOS 2.1.1 and later)

from tutorial.
Most probably it solved your problem.
