Here's what happens when you start nm-applet from the terminal under Fluxbox- doesn't look right to me:

The most notable issue for me currently is that none of the text on any of the icons under jaaa (the JACK and ALSA audio analyser) gets displayed and also none of the text in the fluxbox panel such as the name of the workspace and the clock gets displayed if you try using its default style although many of the other styles do display the panel text. A likely related issue with running fluxbox under the current driver (which, like the other issues I mention here doesn't happen with the regular OMAP (open source) xorg driver) is that the icons for both nm- applet and wicd don't display correctly in the fluxbox panel although they do work under KDE.
