We have always had WebNews (via http) available for that:
  http://opensoft.homeip.net/webnews/

There are many other NNTP via web access alternatives too. eg:
   www.nntp.hk/web/

A few months ago, I was also playing around with FUDForum (web forum
software) which has a NNTP gateway service (bi-directional communication).
The bonus of FUDForum, is that it allows full text search against all
historic messages. If most of us agree that we must move back to NNTP, then
I'll definitely install FUDForum too.
