Hi Vishal:

The most significant change between TIPC 1.5.8 and TIPC 1.6.1 (in Linux
kernel 2.6.18) relates to TIPC's broadcast/multicast link; if you are
only doing "normal" unicast messaging then two nodes running these two
versions should be able to discover each other and communicate normally.
(Note: The broadcast/multicast code was significantly reworked in TIPC
1.5.9, and I normally recommend that anyone wishing to use it upgrade to
at least TIPC 1.5.10.)

I should also point out that, starting in TIPC 1.5.9, TIPC name types
from 8 to 63 were added to the "reserved" list -- meaning applications
can no longer these bind names to sockets. If your TIPC 1.5.8-based
applications were using these values you may have to adapt your code (or
modify TIPC in your 2.6.18 kernel to remove this restriction).

Regards,
Al

Subject: [tipc-discussion] Is TIPC backward compatible?

Hi,

Is there any internal message (control/data) format change betweent
tipc-1.5.08 and the one available with Kernel 2.6.18?

Can I run one node on latest TIPC and another on old TIPC and
communicate/discover without any problem?

Thanks
Vishal Soni.
