Hi Brad, If you are using VxWorks 6.2 that ran what was called WR TIPC 1.2. Functionally equivalent to TIPC 1.5.10 from the Open Source community. VxWorks now uses the same numbering scheme for TIPC as the Open Source communicty (or at least the major and minor numbers, eg. TIPC 1.5 or TIPC 1.7).
You really should not have any compatibility issues between Linux 2.6.21 and VxWorks 6.2 (TIPC 1.5.10) given that you are not using Multicasting. You will note that any functionality related to Hierarchical TIPC will be invisible to the nodes running 1.5.10. So if you set up multiple clusters, the nodes running 1.5.10 will be oblivious to any node outside its own immediate cluster. The Linux nodes running 1.7.x should have the CONFIG_TIPC_UNICLUSTER_FRIENDLY flag set so that publications will be send in a manner that the 1.5.10 nodes will understand. This should be configurable in the kernel config options for TIPC. That should be it. Please indicate if this works or does not work for you. But it should. You also have the option of upgrading your WR TIPC version to the latest. TIPC 1.5.12 is on SourceForge. TIPC 1.7.x for VxWorks is getting close but not ready yet. Contact me if you need to look at an early sneak peek of it. We use TIPC for control traffic between the boards. The vxWorks boards are using TIPC 1.2 and the linux boards are using TIPC 1.5 and we've seen no compatibility issues. We are going to move to linux 2.6.21 with TIPC 1.7 and I was wondering if there would be any compatibility issues between TIPC 1.7 on the linux boards and 1.2 on the vxWorks boards. I've looked at the FAQ which only went back as far as 1.3. We are not using name types < 0x100 between boards and we are not using multicasting. Any thoughts on if these two versions will be compatible or features to avoid?
