I just finished giving my students in a Learning class their first exam of
the term. The distribution of scores was unlike any I have seen in this
class on this first exam in the past.

Although I am not a fan of the "drop the lowest grade" approach because it
tacitly gives students permission to simply not learn a segment of the
course material, I am making an exception this term. I am guessing I am
seeing an effect related to WTC on academic performance (possibly worse in
Pensacola since some military families in the area are seeing family
members deployed to unknown locations in response to WTC). I saw similar
problems with academic performance in my students during the term when
Pensacola experienced 2 major hurricanes in a 2-month period of time.

Are others on TIPS seeing similar disruption of academic performance?
