I just wrote, referring to an obituary of Ernest Hilgard:

> Parenthetically, British newspapers seem
> to do obituaries particularly well. When I was on sabbatical
> in Britain, I used to enjoy reading in their newspapers about the
> exploits of various illustrious individuals who had recently
> joined the choir invisible.

Case in point: check out the obituary for Rosemary Brown, who
died on the same day as Dr. Hilgard. This is a woman who
specialized in communication with dead composers, once watched
television with Franz Liszt (the BBC, I expect), and was even
rescued from an overflowing bath by Chopin himself. Now do North
American newspapers give us obituaries like that?
