This is a fun request. But Jim has to promise to get back to us however long it takes with the results of the research. The only variable I have confidence in is that, for students and faculty, field of study is significant. The harder the science (math, physics, computer science) the greater the scorn for research in the social sciences. OK, perhaps sex as well (not having it but being it). I predict that women are more likely to look favourably on research in the social sciences. There are other variables which would be interesting to look at but I can't decide which way they might go. These include IQ (or educational attainment, or grade point average), religiosity, and belief in the paranormal. -Stephen ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stephen Black, Ph.D. tel: (819) 822-9600 ext 2470 Department of Psychology fax: (819) 822-9661 Bishop's University e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Lennoxville, QC J1M 1Z7 Canada Department web page at http://www.ubishops.ca/ccc/div/soc/psy Check out TIPS listserv for teachers of psychology at: http://www.frostburg.edu/dept/psyc/southerly/tips/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
