Colleagues, Positive Psychology was the subject of the January, 2000, American Psychologist. It actually has a broad focus, with the goal of moving psychology from a study of illness, which Seligman argues was fostered by research funding following WWII, to a study of health. While certainly not new, the goal is to understand factors contributing to health rather than how to move from illness to health. It is actually quite a significant move.
Those involved in the research include Seligman and our very own David Myers. A wonderful book on the topic is: Kahneman, D., Diener, E., & Schwarz, N. (1999). Well-Being: The foundations of hedonic psychology. New York: Russell Sage. There is a great deal of credible positive psychology research involving many areas of psychology, and this book provides a great overview (it consists of literature reviews in areas such as: emotions, personality, biology, and the social context). -Luke Dalfiume, Ph.D. Eureka College Eureka, IL --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
