I apologize in advance for a post that is only marginally related to teaching.
I'm looking for information on stereotypes, how gender affects how one reads
or thinks about a text.  Is a reader's sense of what a text is "about"
affected by gender?  Does gender specific prior knowledge affect reading a
text/poem which deals with female/male issues?
Specifically, I'm interested in the affective responses students have when,
for example, a male student reads a poem about a woman's menstrual cycle, or
other facets of womanhood and vice versa.
