December 14, 2001 The Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP) announced today the digital publication of a new book, The Many Faces of Psychological Research in the 21st Century, edited by Jane Halonen, Ph.D. (James Madison University) and Stephen F. Davis (Emporia State University). STP has made the book available, free of charge, exclusively via the World Wide Web at its homepage: <http://www.teachpsych.org>.
This new "e-book" is a first for STP! The editors have enlisted a cadre of well-known authors to provide the latest research information across 13 subfields of psychology. The lively writing insures a work that is accessible to advanced undergraduates and graduate students, who are searching for a research home base, teachers (especially of introductory psychology), and faculty desiring to broaden their understanding of the field. Because this is an online publication, readers and authors will have the opportunity to interact with each other. The editors note, "We offer this book as a tribute to Harry Kirke Wolfe. Wolfe, an acknowledged master teacher, held an ardent belief in the benefits of scientific psychology. In Wolfe's words, 'The science of teaching depends immediately upon the results of psychological investigation. The progressive teacher must know not only the results and the 'Methods' based thereon, but also how to investigate for himself.' The new book from the STP truly captures the spirit of Harry Kirke Wolfe." The text covers a broad array of interests within contemporary psychology. These include Coping and Health, Personality Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Neuroscience, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Intelligence and Cognition, Social Psychology, Psychology of Women and Gender, Sensation and Perception, Human Development, Psychology and the Law, Psychopathology, and Comparative Psychology and Animal Learning. Halonen is Professor and Director of the School of Psychology at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. She is an Associate Editor of the journal, Teaching of Psychology, and a past president of STP. Davis is Professor of Psychology at Emporia State University, past president of STP, the author of more than 250 articles and textbooks, and a past recipient of the American Psychological Foundation's Distinguished Teaching in Psychology Award. ------------- Vinny Hevern Le Moyne College [EMAIL PROTECTED] Internet Editor, STP --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
