Psychology Instructor

The District
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District encompasses over
10,000 square miles serving approximately 210,000 residents of beautiful
northeastern California. The College is located four miles east of Redding,
which is the population center of the upper Sacramento Valley. Located 220
miles northeast of San Francisco, the campus is situated on 337 acres and
commands spectacular views of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen, and the Trinity Alps.
Nearby are some of the outstanding recreational areas in the western United
States, including Shasta, Trinity, and Whiskeytown Lakes. The campus
includes a comprehensive 90-acre Holistic Resources Laboratory with an
additional 320 acres of rangeland located nine miles east of the main
campus.
Shasta College enrolls approximately 13,000 students, including on-campus
day, on-campus evening, and off-campus students taking classes in outreach
centers throughout the District. The College currently employs 160
full-time faculty and administrators, 350 part-time instructors, and 210
support staff.
The Community
The City of Redding (78,700 population) is the financial, industrial,
medical, and retail center of far Northern California. Redding has
outstanding municipal services, good schools, two large acute care
hospitals, and offers a variety of cultural activities. Housing is
available in most price ranges.
Assignment
Full-time tenure track position to teach Psychology. Courses may be
assigned during day, evening, and weekend periods. May also include
off-campus assignments.
Summary of Duties
Develop and teach five sections of Psychology 1A and 14 each semester in the
first year. The assignment may include a wider range of courses in future
years. In addition to the above, the individual will:
* ? act as a role model for students; maintain professional
standards of conduct and ethics appropriate to the position
* ? maintain up-to-date knowledge in the subject matter area
* ? use multiple methodologies in teaching, including computer
technology and learning communities
* ? develop Internet based classes
* ? assist with curriculum development and articulation with
universities and high schools
* ? participate in faculty governance and student activities
* ? attend department and center planning meetings
* ? provide student advisement, maintain necessary attendance and
scholastic records
* ? provide a professional liaison between Shasta College and the
community
* ? observe the administrative regulations outlined in the college
faculty handbook and fulfill other responsibilities as assigned for the
benefit of the department, college, community, and the profession
Education/Experience
Master's degree in psychology, OR Bachelor's degree in psychology AND
Master's degree in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or
psychiatric social work, OR the equivalent, OR valid California Community
College instructor's credential in subject matter area.
* ? Psychology teaching experience required.
* ? Ph.D. and a broad understanding of the discipline are preferred.
* ? Experience in Internet-based, computer assisted instruction is
strongly preferred.
* ? Commitment to provide instruction for students with diverse
abilities and interests. Personal qualities to work effectively and
sensitively in a multicultural student environment.
* ? Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
* ? Evidence of continuing education.
* ? Demonstrated interest in maintaining membership and contributing
to professional organizations and/or community service.

documentation explaining how their academic preparation is equivalent to the
degrees listed.
Salary and Benefits
Placement on the Shasta College Schedule is commensurate with previous
education and experience.
* ? Starting salary: $32,914-$56,044/year.
* ? A doctorate differential of $1,803 will be added to the salary
when earned doctorate is held by the instructor.
