Ah, more evidence for my thesis that virus checkers are useless because they always work too late. The virus appears to have slipped through the defenses of my own university system for the same reason. I wasn't at risk because, almost alone at the university, I still cling to the old Linux system they would dearly like to shut down. At home, I have no anti-virus (I suspect it of causing computer crashes), only one simple rule: never click on an attachment unless you know, not only whereof it comes, but also whatof it 'tis. If necessary, I query the sender first. Works for me (so far...). Faith in anti-virus programmes despite substantial evidence that they don't help seems to be a kind of superstitious behaviour or (dare I say it?) a new religion. -Stephen ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stephen Black, Ph.D. tel: (819) 822-9600 ext 2470 Department of Psychology fax: (819) 822-9661 Bishop's University e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Lennoxville, QC J1M 1Z7 Canada Department web page at http://www.ubishops.ca/ccc/div/soc/psy Check out TIPS listserv for teachers of psychology at: http://www.frostburg.edu/dept/psyc/southerly/tips/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
