Ah, more evidence for my thesis that virus checkers are useless
because they always work too late. The virus appears to have
slipped through the defenses of my own university system for the
same reason. I wasn't at risk because, almost alone at the
university, I still cling to the old Linux system they would
dearly like to shut down. At home, I have no anti-virus (I
suspect it of causing computer crashes), only one simple rule:
never click on an attachment unless you know, not only whereof it
comes, but also whatof it 'tis.  If necessary, I query the sender
first.

Works for me (so far...). Faith in anti-virus programmes despite
substantial evidence that they don't help seems to be a kind of
superstitious behaviour or (dare I say it?) a new religion.
