I've
used "And the Band Played On" in both health psychology and in a psychology of
social issues course - it is a docu-drama based on the U.S. and French
researchers attempts to understand what was happening and intervene in the
early stages of the AIDS epidemic. It is based on a book by journalist Randy
Shilts and I think it is well-done, and the classes have received it well.
There
is also a documentary called "Cancer in Two Voices" about two women in a long
term relationship in which one has terminal cancer. Also based on a book of the
same title by Sandra Butler and Barbara Rosenblum.
Both
have powerful emotional impacts.
