Neither can horses. (Not that horses are typical research subjects.) This inability makes "colic" a real problem, and explains why a colicy horse is an emergency medical situation that will get a veterinarian out of bed at night to treat the potentially life-threatening situation. Peritonitis - the logical result of the internal "explosion" we're semi-joking about - is most certainly not a very pleasant way to die. Now doesn't TIPS offer all kinds of unusual information??
