Tipsters,
I've been posting pictures from a phamous phrenology book, a phirst edition of which happened my way. You might like to see some of them -- the book was in rather indifferent shape, and jpeg compression wasn't very kind to some of the images, but if they are of use in teaching, feel free to copy.
There's a small catch. I have failed to identify several of the people in the pictures -- presumably, they were well-known in 1859, and perhaps to Tipsters now who have any background in American political and/or social history. (Hardly anyone can know less about the USA 1776-1859 than I do.) Please, if you recognize any of the names or images that I haven't been able to place, or have mis-identified, drop me a quick email.
A number of the images and descriptions are worth examining as social - racial - gender stereotypes, by the way. Some others are bizarre or funny.
