In my haste to reply to Deb Briil's questions I left out an important word... here is what I meant to say.
I rely on the text for most of the details in the course. The essential edition would probably be useful IF major chapters are NOT deleted (e.g., chapters I particularly value.) Another issue is the tendency for essential versions to be paperback. On a commuter campus these tend to fall apart before the semester ends.
