Paul Smith noted: > creationism - as a movement - is an intentional lie. > And I think that creationists count on that (it's > certainly how they so routinely win those debates...).
Is it a lie to believe in the process of evolution, but still believe that there is an supernatural force that initated the process? Science certainly can tell us the facts about evolution, but the question of whether or not there is a higher supernatural force behind the process of evolution seems to me to lie in the realm of theology. That is, unless science has recently found a way to disprove the existence of God... <grin> Personally, I think creationists are a bit misguided when trying to infer specific principles of evolution from Genesis. As I see it, the purpose of the Genesis accounts is not a focus on the "what" or "how" of evolution but rather a focus on the "who" (Who started this whole process?) and "why" (Why was this whole process started?). Again, these are issues of theology and not science. On another personal note, I don't support teaching creationism in the science classroom of the public school. If we were to teach Christian creationism, then I believe we would need to give equal floor-time to other theistic perspectives. Those are very interesting issues to explore from a theological or cultural perspective, but not appropriate in a science classroom. Rod p.s. This message was not created by anyone.
