I remember a fellow in grad school who I thought was a 
semi-retired faculty member.  Later I learned he was a grad 
student from a faculty member who was retiring.  It turned out 
that the retiring faculty person,in his first year as an 
Assistant Professor, had been placed on this graduate 
student's dissertation committee. So this graduate student had 
managed to outlast a complete faculty career!
