Of course everyone is entitled to his or her opinion about the existence
of DID; however, I encourage those in doubt to research the topic. There
are some top notch researchers in the area of DID: Bessle Van der Kolk,
Frank Putnam, and Constance Dalenberg for starters.

If presented with a student who claimed to be DID, I *would not* make a
joke of it by pointing them to the nearest acting class. I would ask if
they were stable enough so that one personality would be present at all
times during class and during exams. I might also ask if the student was
intergrated enough so that their disorder would not present a problem for
learning the material in class AND at test time (a time when another
personality is likely to come out).

If in fact the student actually has a dx of DID, they have already been
through enough trauma. They certainly do not deserve ridicule from
their professors.
