Greetings, TIPsters! I will be teaching a new junior/senior Behavior Modification/Applied Behavior Analysis seminar in the fall, and I am struggling to find an appropriate text. Most of the texts out there are a bit too simplistic for my tastes. One promising text - Cooper, Heron, & Heward - is now 15 years out of date.
Here are some of the parameters: 1) All students will have already taken a 200-level lab based course in Learning and Conditioning. I use Mazur's Learning and Behavior and Kazdin's Behavior Modification in Applied Settings in that class - which are relatively meaty texts for a sophomore level course. I need to have something for the new course that will be above the level of those. 2) I want to maintain a pretty traditional behavioral approach - in other words I am not looking for cognitive/behavioral texts. 3) Most of the class will use primary source readings - the textbook is more of a reference/backup. 4) The course will have a research focus, not an application focus. 5) I am happy to consider grad level texts - the students are pretty bright and can certainly handle that. In fact, I realize that Kazdin is used as a grad text in some places - and they are getting that as sophomores here...
