Personal blooper on my own part.... When covering auditory anatomy, I drew a picture on the board showing the external ear & middle ear. I noted that the inner ear was a spiral shape, and so could be better understood by imagining it straightened out rather than coiled up. So drew a shaft extending out from that external/middle ear picture. I'm not a great artist, so unfortunately this was kind of a rough diagram. Now, you may need to sketch this for yourself to get the point, but when I mentioned the word "cochlea" with reference to this diagram, there was a huge reaction from the class. Took me a moment to realize what kind of picture I had drawn on the board that might relate to that word.
