I'll add a couple of tidbits: As Bruce Hetzler reports, Rosalie Rayner died in 1935 after an contracting an illness overseas; it was never conclusively diagnosed, but she became progressively more ill over the space of several weeks. James Watson (Rayner and Watson's son) referred to it as a "tropical fever" so although you can draw some inferences about the trip I don't know the exact destination.
James Watson once told me that, although his father had been a poor parent, many of the things reported in Mariette Hartley's book were just factually incorrect.
