At SWT we like to make things complicated. Students register via the phone and we have two different override forms... Two of our courses (Stats & Methods) require departmental approval so that our majors can have top priority for enrolling. There is one form for students to request permission to add the course, provided they meet the prereqs. If approved, they must still add the course by phone. This form asks for which course (stats or methods), semester they want to register, name, ssn, and a self-report of the prereqs which I've always thought was useless since we check it ourselves anyway. (On a side note, don't ask why the phone registration system doesn't take care of checking all of this for us... that's a different story.) We have a second form that is used for closed class overrides and special approvals (e.g., independent studies). This form just asks for name, ssn, course, and instructor signature. Again, once they turn it in to the office, an override code is entered, but the students still have to add the course via the phone registration system. We're talking about consolidating the forms and moving some of this to an electronic format, but so far haven't made much progress. - Marc ============================================= G.
