Actually, this is just about bipolar cells. It just seemed obligatory 
to refer to the anti-semitism issue.

I just lectured on the amazing sequence of events beginning with the 
capture of photons by rods and ending with firing in retinal ganglion 
cells. I told my class that the neurotransmitter released by rods 
onto bipolar cells is glutamate. A student wanted to know what the 
neurotransmitter was that allowed bipolars to depolarize ganglion 
cells.  

Does anyone know? With a reference, hopefully?  And I also hope Linda 
doesn't think my question is anti-semitic.
