The sad thing is that the active professional players made it clear that anyone who came out while still playing would have a very short career (one way or another). The show addressed a lot of the issues of machismo, and homophobia but even addressed the issue of locker rooms. Even players who were more accepting of homosexuals said they would be uncomfortable sharing a locker room with openly gay men. I think the interview can be a good starting point for a class discussion. A great companion piece would be the last 20 minutes of the HBO special Sex and Sports. To illustrate the depths of homophobia in sports, it shows a boxer whose sexuality was questioned before the fight. He ended up killing (literally) his opponent. -- Herb Coleman IT Manager, Rio Grande Campus Adjunct Psychology Professor Austin Community College [EMAIL PROTECTED] 512-223-3076 ****************************************** * "I wish none of this had happened." * * * * "So do all who live to see such times. * * But that is not for them to decide. * * All we have to decide is what to do * * with the time that is given to us. * * There are other forces at work in this * * world,..., besides the will of evil." * ****************************************** A conversation between Frodo and Gandalf from the motion picture "The Fellowship of the Ring" --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
