After using Solso for years (with occasional testing of other books) I have
been using Sternberg for the past 3 semesters. The two criteria I focus on
are the topics covered and the level of coverage. I want the book to do a
good job on pattern recognition, language as well as memory (that is always
covered). Given the advancements in cognitive neuroscience, I look for
sufficient coverage throughout the book as well as an introductory chapter.
My class is at a Jr. level so I do expect the students to be challenged but
not overwhelmed. As far as my criteria, Sternberg has done the job for me.
As a bonus, students report that it is very readable.

I'm going to have to teach an introduction to cognitive psych this coming
semester. I recall a recent discussion of texts in this area. Could
someone give me an idea of which texts are most popular and why? Thanks.
