To deal with students asking for more points (i.e., regrading after exams) I have started to distribute my criteria (usually with sample answers) to the students after the exams. This way, as mentioned by others, if I did make an error, the students can tell me clearly where the error is - but "fishing for points" is greatly lessened.
At first, I created the criteria for myself without distributing it - so I could have clearly defined responses when students challenged their grades, but now, I've decided it is easier to make it accessible to students (and why make it if I don't give it to them).
