This is a 'short list' of Lots that I have used on a couple of occasions.  The Lot in Life activity was described by Sharon Hamill and Catherine Hale in Teaching of Psychology, December 1996, p 245-246.  Sharon Hamill sent me a copy of the material that she had developed for the project.  These materials included 92 different Lots.  At that time (1997) she was at CSU, San Marcos and her email was:  [EMAIL PROTECTED].  I do not know if this information is still current.  Here is the list.

1.      Your 5 year-old daughter is moderately retarded and you need special education for her.

 

2.      Your 3 year-old daughter has cystic fibrosis.

 

3.      Your newborn daughter is born blind.

 

4.      Your 6 year-old is small for his age.  He is being victimized by other children in his class.

 

5.      You are accused of physically abusing your 4 year-old son.

 

6.      You are the single parent of an 11 year-old boy.    You work full time and your son comes home to an empty house.  You are worried about the effects on him.

 

7.      You are the parent of a 5 year-old girl and 10 year-old boy.  You are getting married to a person who has a 7 year-old boy.  You are worried about this "blended" family.

 

8.      You suspect that a relative has sexually abused your 8 year-old daughter.

 

9.      You have adopted a child of a different race.  You have two other children, aged 2 and 9,

 

10.  You and your spouse have been divorced for a year.  You have a 7 year-old daughter together.  Your spouse abducts your daughter.

 

11.  Your 10 year-old daughter is obese.

 

12.  Your 8 year-old son has been diagnosed with ADHD.

 

13.  Your spouse died very recently in a car accident.  You are left to raise two children (a boy, 9 and a girl, 4).

 

14.  You are concerned because your 11 year-old son has been suspended from school numerous times for fighting.  He just can't seem to get along with other children.

 

15.  You have just given birth to a daughter, she suffers from Down Syndrome.

 

16.  Your 9 year-old daughter has just begun menstruating and you are concerned about the effects of early puberty on her social development.

 

17.  Your 10 year-old  has a measured IQ of 155 and is considered to be gifted by his teacher.

 

18.  Your 5 year-old tells you about some events at his/her daycare facility that make you think he/she may have been sexually abused. 

 

19.  Your 7 year-old son has cancer and is in need of a bone marrow transplant.

 

20.  You are divorcing you spouse of 10-years and are worried about the effects on your 9-year old daughter and 7 year-old son.

 

21.  You drank quite heavily during pregnancy (if you are a male, your wife drank heavily).  Your 7 year-old child has fetal alcohol syndrome.

 

22.  Your 8 year-old son is deaf.

 

23.  Your 2 year-old son suffers a head injury in a serious automobile accident.

 

24.  You are a single parent with two children, aged 1 and 4.  You need daycare but can only afford $100.00 a week for both.

 

25.  Your ex-spouse is gay.  You have a 5 year-old son.

 

26.  You and your spouse are 35 years-old.  You have been trying to conceive for 2 years and have been unsuccessful.  You desperately want a child so you look into infertility treatments.

 

27.  Your five year-old daughter witnesses a theft at the local mall.  The Crown prosecutor wants your daughter to testify against the thief at a trial.

 

28.  Your 11 year-old son was caught with cocaine.

 

29.  Your 6 year-old daughter is autistic.

 

30.  Your 7 year old-son is dyslexic.

 

31.  You are a single parent and HIV positive.   You have a 5 year-old daughter.

 

32.  You (or your wife if you are male) suffer a miscarriage.

 

33.  You (or your girlfriend, if you are a male) are pregnant.  You decide to have your child and remain single.  (If you are a male, you decide to raise the child yourself).  Assume that you are in the life circumstances that you are now ( in college, your age, etc....).
