It seems like the Vagina Monologues are quite popular. Next Saturday, the Yukon Arts Centre is having a 2-3 hour bilingual night of the Vagina Monologues. Wondering about "why" such monologues were being held, I asked around to find answers. Most of the men I know and asked told me they could not care less about such an event. They were actually wondering how a 3 hour night of "vagina" talk could possibly be interesting... One or two monologues can be funny... But three hours worth? they said...
On the other hand, many of my female friends whom I asked for their opinion were quite thrilled about them. Having read some, they said it was resonating with some of their experiences, and they also said they were learning about many "vagina" issues. I was quite astounded (to be honest, I tend to lean on the "guy" side of the thing, and am still wondering how 3 hours of vagina talk can be entertaining) by the fact that so many women (from a very unrepresentative sample, I have to admit) seemed to have, or know other women who have, issues surrounding their vagina. This is a sad statement. Perhaps research should be conducted in that field... Any comments welcome...
