Thanks for the Sternberg piece!

But I'm a little disappointed that Sternberg, basically representing the institution of psychology, seems to be getting so defensive here. Either that or I totally misread Tavris myself. Either way, it seems Tavris could've done a better job explaining herself. When Tavris wrote about "psychotherapists," I read the term in a sense which would mostly exclude clinical psychologists. In fact, she made the point explicitly that anyone can call herself a psychotherapist and get away with it, whereas only those trained as scientist-practitioners can call themselves psychologists. I think Sternberg thinks Tavris is including psychologists when she uses the term "psychotherapist," and slams them for being unscientific. Rebirthing therapists are necessarily psychotherapists, but they are not necessarily psychologists. So I wonder whether Sternberg is taking down a strawwoman argument here. Or maybe I've just forgotten how to read.
