Dear Tipsters,
This list has run a number of fascinating strings on
IRBs, so I thought some of you might be interested in
this. I have an ORI (Office of Research
Integrity)/NIH grant with the purpose of discovering
how to better understand the frustrations (and
reactions to them) that some social scientists
encounter when interacting with IRBs. The final goal
is to learn enough to help guide federal policy so
that some of these frustrations may occur less often.
We have already completed one large survey, and the
next set is about ready to be mailed to participants.
However, I need to first have it evaluated by willing
colleagues who have had experiences (that need not
have been problematical) with their IRBs before
finalizing the measure.
There is good news and bad news. The good news is
that as critically important as this task is to this
project, it will take about only 10-15 minutes and can
be completed entirely by email. The bad news is that
I dont have consultant funds. But, the good news is
that volunteers will be listed as consultants on this
NIH grant, and that can be included as a professional
(and most appreciated, I assure you!) contribution on
a vita or personnel evaluation, if that would be of
use to you.
If you can help us out, please let me know by sending
an email to me personally (not the whole group) and I
will send the material to be evaluated to you in short
order.
Many thanks for your consideration.
Patricia Keith-Spiegel, PhD
