Hello to Sue and others - I remember reading a short but very memorable story around 12-13 years ago in Ms. magazine by Letty Cottin Pogrebin about her blood phobia and how it was successfully treated with a type of desensitization therapy. Interesting points about how she thought the phobia was acquired (watching a scary movie at age 5 where pirates drain blood from someone) and all the problems it caused her (fainting and sometimes shock during medical procedures, having to send her kids to a neighbor's house for Band-Aids, etc.). The upbeat ending is a nice touch, too. Don't know if it's possible to track this down so many years later, though!
