A student of my brought me a questionairre that they received from a counselor and was asking about the reliability and validity. It is the CAARS-Observer: Long Version (CAARS-O:L). Can anyone tell me about this measurement?

Also, her family member was diagnosed with bipolar disorder many years ago. He has recently returned to treatment (after many years of not taking meds). The counselor/clinician (?) has diagnosed him with adult ADHD. She wanted to know if this is a common diagnosis or if his manic episodes could be diagnosed as ADHD. He was prescribed ritalin and she is worried that this medication may not be appropriate for a bipolar with a history of drug abuse.

Since I am not a clinician, I don't know much about the diagnosis of adult ADHD. Any comments would be appreciated.
