I have a question regarding the DSM and FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder):
How does the DSM deal with it (does it at all)? I was trying to find FASD in the DSM-IV-TR, in any form I could think of, but with no luck. I thought of:
- Alcohol-related disorders,
- Disorders usually diagnosed in infancy,
- Substance-related disorders,
- Mental retardation,
But nothing seemed to relate. Unless we look at some disorders that may be caused by the brain damage resulting from the exposure to alcohol during fetal development?
eg: Mental retardation, ADHD, Conduct disorder...
So, any idea why FASD is not included in the DSM? What would be the leading reference in the field of FASD?
I'd appreciate any leads...
Cheers!
Jean-Marc
