Jim Clark asked about a book which apparently questioned research showing that daycare didn't cause harm to children.
As a long-shot, I wonder if he might be referring to the massive and on-going National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development, which started in 1989. There doesn't appear to be a book, but many, many publications. The main web page is at http://www.nichd.nih.gov/od/secc/summary.htm and a listing of the publications at http://www.nichd.nih.gov/od/secc/pubs.htm I couldn't find a summary of their results but the following article (not easily retrievable, unfortunately) suggests that it turned up negative effects on child care.
