I should have a rubber stamp made with this one from Karl's list:
"In reference lists, issue numbers are given only when the journal is
paginated by issue rather than by volume. When I see something like
"Psychoscatalogical Science, 13(4), 384-391" I know you goofed -- it is a
rare journal which would have over 300 pages in a single issue!"
Almost every paper I get makes that mistake. I think that this one stems
in part from the common misconception that you can use a published paper as
a model for how to do APA format (that is, the failure to notice that APA
format is a format for submitting papers, not for how they actually appear
when printed in a journal). Of course the fact that APA format requirement
change over time is also a part of the issue here.
