I'm pleased to see the conceptual responses to the Learning Question below:
A salesperson for Jean Pampinis Clothes earns a commission for each item
of clothing she sells.
1. Commission on the clothing sales is an example of which type of
reinforcement schedule?
a. Continuous
b. FR
c. FI
d. VR
e. VI
However, the issue seems to be the wording of the question more than the
content. Although I am not an expert at behaviorism, it would seem that
the confusion for the students comes from the difference between the first
sentence and the actual question. To me, a salesperson who earns a
commission for each item of clothing she sells--sounds like a fixed ratio.
If you made the question more concrete and perhaps wrote that she
receives 10% of each sale straight out of the register on each piece of
clothing sold, it might be clearer? The question of saying "commission on
the clothing slaes" makes reference to getting a commission in general
rather than the discrete experience of getting reinforced at a specific
rate.
Just my 2 cents (no commission)
