Hello,
I am going to assume that unfolding of this thread means that I won't be scolded by other members for being political (as I was when I brought up East Timor a few years ago) when I make the following statement:
The Super Bowl is great evidence for Chomsky's notion that the mass media exists to distract people from participating in the governing of this country. It is a silly, irrelevant, usually boring event that means nothing important in the long run. But people get much more worked up about it then about the fact that we are being lied to and mislead by a government that is basically run by wealthy corporate types (who won't show ads that are critical of the government but want everyone to get outraged about 3 seconds of bare breast - who is make the decision to keep harping on this in the media today?)
Who cares about the Super Bowl? Who cares about Janet Jackson's boob? Who cares about how much government sanctioned drug pushers (Budweiser) paid for their commercial air time? Too damn many people, and that is the completely depressing thing.
My 1.00 for the evening. Yes it IS political and I don't give a rat's tusy about who gets mad at me for saying it.
