At 700 pages, it�s not a book to be read straight through, nor even
started from chapter one. I certainly didn�t do either, but selected the
chapters that looked most interesting � each one is completely
independent. And I make no pretence of having read most of it! I�m not
sure I agree with Beth about the style. The passages I posted on 21
February strike me as elegant rather than stilted. But of course one has
to adjust to a more leisurely age!
